Funicornby Ulf (2019)
Unlike the saccharine fairy tales of today, the Unicorn, as imagined in the German fairy tales of old, was often seen as a tough and menacing creature that wreaked havoc on civilization.
Such a creature is dramatically depicted in this striking piece by Ulf — Titled Funicorn as a play on the word Unicorn and the Aesir word for Fire, 'Funi'. This nightmarish creature is a refreshing antithesis to the "magical" and "majestic" Unicorns much beloved in today's Pop-Culture.
From the works of Hieronymous Bosch to H.R. Giger, our folk have always been drawn to dark and even morbid works of art that stir our imagination — and this piece by Ulf continues in that tradition.
This is an oversized print, reproduced almost double the size of the original — It crisply magnifies every brushstroke lending a grizzly feel to this powerful piece — This is an impressive print that will dominate any room and you will only find it at Grotti Mill Productions.
